CRS and FATCA in the UAE

UAE financial institutions report information on accounts held by foreign tax residents to their home authorities.

CRS

Under the Common Reporting Standard, UAE banks collect your tax residence details and report account information for residents of participating countries to the UAE authorities, which exchange it with those countries.

FATCA

Under the UAE–US intergovernmental agreement, UAE banks report accounts held by US persons for exchange with the IRS. See For US citizens.

What it means for you

  • Declare all tax residences truthfully when opening accounts
  • If you become UAE tax resident, provide a Tax residency certificate to update your status
  • Your home authority may receive information on your UAE accounts while you remain resident there
