Driving licence conversion
Residents holding a licence from an eligible country can exchange it for a UAE licence without taking a driving test.
Eligibility
The Roads and Transport Authority publishes the list of countries whose licences can be exchanged. It includes the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland, Finland and most EU countries, among others.
Documents
- Valid foreign licence, with translation if required
- Emirates ID and residence visa
- Eye test from an approved optician

You follow the RTA's driving training and test process, sometimes with shortened training for experienced drivers.

Can I drive with my foreign licence as a new resident?
